Weddings, Baptisms & Funerals

Today more than a quarter of all marriages in England between a man and a woman take place in the traditional setting of a Church of England church. You're welcome to marry in church whatever your beliefs, whether or not you are baptised and whether or not you go to church.

To marry in one of the Churches of this benefice, you should normally have a connection with the church through family or other connections including, of course, living in the parish itself.

The churches of the Start Bay Benefice offer some stunning locations for your special day and, if you are working to a tight budget, many have nearby village halls that can be hired for a reception.

Baptisms, Christenings and Celebrations on the Birth of a Child

Everyone is welcome to have their children christened in their parish church. During the christening service your child will be baptized and with the support of the church, you and godparents, your child begins an amazing journey of faith.

Alternative, parents can choose a special church service, different from a christening, as a way to say thank you to God for your child. It is called a Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child and you can choose to have this service instead of a christening if you decide that now isn’t the right time to have your child baptized. Or, you could even have the Thanksgiving service as well as a christening!

A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life which has now completed its journey in this world.

The death of a loved one is always a stressful time, especially when there are a number of arrangements to deal with. We recommend that you contact our staff as soon as possible to discuss arrangements and possible dates for a funeral and in parallel to delaing with your chosen funeral director.

Please refer to our contact page to contact a member of staff and to our web site pages for help and advice on planning the service.
